The German chapel is in 2159 m altitude at the Dobratsch in the town of Bad Bleiberg and Mary is ordained in the sacred stone. It is a branch church of the Roman Catholic parish of Bad Bleiberg. The name “German band” is used to distinguish it from the Windische chapel, the second mountain church on Dobratsch.

According to legend, the construction of the church was preceded by a Marian apparition. Maria is supposed to be a Bleiberger trades or a distressed shepherds appeared sitting on a stone.
