Taken pre-war in 2010 in one of the fresh produce markets in downtown Latakia. The various shopkeepers were having fun with us as we walked through snapping away. This guy didn’t mean any malevolence as his smile shows but he did find it funny anyone would want to take a photo of him. One can only wonder what his life must be like now though I believe Latakia has been spared much of the violence and carnage that other Syrian cities have experienced. 500px.com/photo/56346606

A view towards the Temple Mount, the Western Wall and the Dome of the Rock. These are extremely holy sites for both Muslims and Jews and has caused much consternation over the years. Unfortunately the all too prevailing view of Israel these days is one looked through a veil of barbed wire as Israel continues to occupy Palestinian lands. 500px.com/photo/56346598
