After a huge and epic first day back snowboarding I went to bed committed to driving back into the park this morning for a sunrise shoot.
I dejectedly woke to my 5:55am alarm feeling very stiff and sore from one to many over-confident moments on the board the day before and was quickly second guessing my sunrise plans.
A few drowsy moments later and I realised the rarity of my opportunity and painfully dragged myself up.
30minutes and a few pain killers later and I was on the Trans Canada with my medium Tim Hortons French Vanilla and some SIRIUS 90’s rock ripping my way to the glorious Vermillion Lakes in Banff National Park.
I chose this location because a few days before my arrival Alberta had been blessed with some above zero temperatures which had allowed a few of the lakes to unfreeze. Driving home from the mountain the day before I had seen the small section of open water on this lake positioned perfectly in front of Mount Rundle and coincidently facing direct east.
I figured that if I could catch it with a colourful sunrise before another snowstorm and before the lake re-froze it had the potential of looking pretty cool.
