In the Hawaiian religion, Pele is the goddess of volcanoes. According to legend, Pele lives in the Halemaʻumaʻu crater Kīlauea. After the sunset, splendid glow comes out from her house. The party starts.

Terra… Not so firma. Lava exits a tube and flows into the sea, creating another new black sand beach and delta of land, forever altering the Big Island’s coastline. This truly remarkable and dynamic scene is mesmerizing to witness, let alone shoot. Shoes: $175. Tripod: $950. Getting the shot: Priceless. : )

There are only about 1100 Hawaii monk seals on the world. 5 of them live in Big Island. I was lucky to run into one of them on a beach near Kona airport.

The rapidly cooling surface of a wide, swift river of pahoehoe narrows to an apex, creating a one of a kind natural landscape abstract. This dynamic aspect of lava, makes it a favorite subject of mine, as every passing minute provides an opportunity for capturing something extraordinarily unique. Shot from about 20 feet directly above the flow from a helicopter. : )
