The salt flats in the Danakil depression, Afar region, Ethiopia, are located 100 meters below sea level, along the borderline with Eritrea. This huge salt crust, which can go up to 1,000 meters thick, goes deep in the earth’s crust. Salt miners break plates of salt out of the ground, cut them into tiles of standard sizes (4kg or 8kg), stacking and tying them on the camels’ backs. Salt is money. Salary.

So obviously Düsseldorf isn’t just all about Ferraris and such…it looked so out of place. I was glad to see it here anyways and had a pretty hard time not to enter it and get away really quick. 😉
