Happy Sunday everyone! Sunday is as good a day as any to take stock of your blessings and get yourself back on track mentally, physically and spiritually for the new week ahead. Usually when people talk about taking stock, they’re measuring value in dollars and cents, they’re estimating their life’s worth by the balances on their financial statements, the kind of import cars in their garage or the number of bathrooms to bedrooms ratio in their house. Yet arguably the richest people are those who find peace and contentment and happiness in just the simplest blessings like family, friends, food on the table and a roof over head. It is easy to get caught up in “wanting more” versus “needing less”, but don’t ever feel that your life or self worth is any less valuable than the next person just because it’s simpler than the next person. Being rich is relative and material things (while nice) can only provide happiness for so long before their moment (like their value) depreciates. Be happy and content with who you are and what you have, count your blessings and not your assets, and remember that nothing of financial value will go with us when we die, for even the fancy suits or dresses we are buried in will survive longer in a coffin than we will. There are so many things we all take for granted, and it’s often because we are such a disposable society now that there’s a tendency to expect that everything can easily be replaced. We often think that our jobs, friends, families, spouses, loved ones, and even our own health, security, and possessions will always be there day in and day out that we neglect to give the right things their rightful attention. Relationships fail because people take love for granted, careers fail because people fail to work hard, and good health fails because people neglect the need for a balanced diet and regular exercise. We are all extremely blessed to be alive today, and yet so many people feel entitled to be alive this morning instead of feeling grateful. How you choose to treat and appreciate and live this day is completely up to you, but trust that as you start neglecting to love your friends, family, spouse, health, career and even your faith, there is someone out there willing and waiting and praying to take those from you at any given moment that you drop the ball. Remember that a flower needs the nourishment of water and sunlight to grow.
