Back from the home of Asiatic lions where the lions and humans live closely and share lives, the entire region is unique deciduous forest and its characters are distinctive than all other vegetation. In 1907, the ruler of Junagadh, ordered that the Asiatic lion be a protected species in Gir National Park. It was believed that there were only 9 lions left in the park. Over 100 years later, in 2010, the Indian Government reported that 411 Asiatic lions were sighted in the park! The locals say there is a rise in number adding another 100-150 lions, we can only know this after the coming census in 2015. This trip was planned very spontaneously along with my brother to test my new telephoto lens “Canon EF300mm f/2.8L IS II USM”. We embarked on our first safari at 5:30 a.m after being in the forest for over 3 hours we got the stinging of this large Majestic Male Lion looking straight at us creating a dramatic pose!
