The rugged canyons, sandstone spires and mesas of Canyonlands National Park are lit orange by a setting sun after a rainstorm as seen from The White Rim Trail near Moab, Utah. The canyons have been cut over eons by water, wind and the elements creating a rugged landscape that are a playground for adventurers and hideaways for outlaws.

Sedona has long been known for its ‘spiritual’ vortexes. I’m not a believer of those types of vortexes, but I did find a type of vortex in Sedona while hiking in Oak Creek Canyon this Fall. It’s the swirly water kind that I love to photograph 🙂

To escape the polar vortex monotone greys hear Horseshoe Bend, we headed back west to Zion National Park hoping for better conditions. We weren’t disappointed. After a long (and exceedingly muddy) day hiking in Zion backcountry, we enjoyed these last rays above the Virgin River.
