A gorgeous day at Wambiana Cattle Station for collecting animals. We set out early to check for reptiles and amphibians in our traps and this blue sky revealed itself mid-afternoon.

The moon. Nothing more, nothing less. My very first shutter release on the moon, ever.

The last snowflake I’ll edit in 2013! It’s been quite a year for this particular subject – well over a hundred images edited and an entire book produced. Thanks so much for everyone’s support this year! There are still 69 days left in this year’s marathon of snowflakes, and I’m sure some great snowstorms still to come this winter. If you haven’t seen the book yet, please check it out: skycrystals.ca/ – shipping out pretty much daily! This crystal has some interesting surface details – the round ovals and curves you see toward the center are caused by inward crystal growth and the bottom branch is growing on a lower level than the other five. This is pretty common, but always adds an extra dimension to the snowflake. 🙂 42 frames were combined to bring the entire snowflake into focus, spanning a total of 37 seconds. More than the 42 shots were taken over that time however, but only 42 were needed to get focus everywhere. The editing process always takes a lot longer, with about four hours put into this particular image. Again, thanks so much everyone for an awesome year! 500px.com/photo/56420022

On a clear night at Haleakala National Park, Maui, Hawaii the stars come out in force. Taken just after sunset with Science City in the background. 500px.com/photo/56398022
